Remember: Together we can make a difference!

What a wonderful day we had! Everything was perfect! When we resumed our Spay Panama-Chiriqui clinics last month, almost all our volunteers were new. It was a learning process for everyone in our new facility. This month everyone knew their jobs well and the clinic ran like clockwork!

Dr. Tello was our only vet. Of the 51 sterilizations he performed today, there were 18 dogs and 33 cats. The dogs:, 4 male and 14 female. The cats: 10 male and 23 female. This clinic brought our total to 6,697 animals sterilized from inception. (Dr. Tello also performs surgeries other than sterilizations. For example, today Dr. Tello removed a huge tumor from an already sterilized dog's leg. We do not keep records of these other types of surgeries.)

Our next clinic will be on Saturday, April 18. For now we will continue the reduced price of $10 per cat and $20 per dog so that the clinic is affordable for more people.

During the February clinic, we had four cats escape in the building. FOUR! The cats ran across tables, climbed curtains. and caused much chaos! Don Binder suffered a serious cat bite. So a wonderful idea was born. When scheduling appointments for this clinic, we advised all cat guardians to bring their cats in pillow cases so we could inject the anesthesia right through the fabric. Well...most people brought their cats in crates and carried the pillow case separately. Each time, we sent them into the bathroom, closed the door, and then they themselves put the cats in the pillow cases. SUCCESS! No problems with cats today!

Agnes and Patrick McKittrick visited us from David, where they provide the very successful clinics there in David. They love our new clinic facility! (Contact Aracelly at 6726-3037 WhatsApp for appointments at the David clinic.)

I am deeply grateful to Dr. Tello and all our wonderful volunteers, without whom none of this important service for the animals and the community could be accomplished.

Volunteers:

Ana Mora, registrar. (Ana and her husband live in Spain and they will leave Panama now. Good job, Ana! (Natasha Pitti will volunteer as registrar in the future.)
Alcides Quintero and Don Binder injected the anesthesia, then shaved and cleaned the surgical areas.
Elcy Morales, a former long-time volunteer, injected the pain and antibiotics. (Our next two clinics will be on a Saturday, and Elcy is unable to volunteer on Saturdays.)
Jadiel Quintero assisted Dr. Tello, cleaned instruments after surgeries, and performed other tasks.
Kelly Pitti helped with post-op injections of antiparasite and multi-vitamins and performed other tasks.
Leidy Mendoza and her two children, Jae Espinosa (age 11) and Annie Espinosa (age 13). They helped with post-surgery of the animals and monitored them as they recovered from the anesthesia. (I love having young dedicated volunteers!)

We intentionally have the exact number of volunteers necessary. Having more than necessary is disruptive.

I am grateful to my two wonderful long-time employees, Alcides Quintero and Rodrigo Morales. Alcides is invaluable at the clinics. Rodrigo mostly stays at my house to take care of my dogs, and he provides transportation to people who need it.

Thank you also to Patricia Chan/Foundation Spay Panama, who gives me unwavering support.

Thank you to Jaime Guerra and Mirtha Ortega (Burricos Mexican Restaurant) who donated a delicious lunch for everyone!

Please forgive me if I have forgotten anyone!

Financial report: (Per Foundation Spay Panama, actual costs are $35 per dog and $25 per cat.)

Costs:
33 cats @ $25 = $825
18 dogs @ $35 = $630
Total costs----- $1,455

Income:
Paid by guardians:     $640
Anonymous donation: $$20
Total income:             $660

This leaves a deficit of $795. Added to the previous deficit of $615 = $1,410 deficit.

We will appreciate your donations! Dorothy Mae Atwater, Yappy at Banco General. And cash of course. I will give my US bank information for US citizens who wish to donate; they will receive a receipt for tax deductions.

My gratitude to everyone who participated in our clinics today, and to those who had their pets sterilized. Always remember that TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
