Remember: Together we can make a difference!

Another beautiful, sunny day for helping the animals!

Dr. Tello sterilized 54 animals today: 24 dogs (21 female, 3 male), 30 cats (22 female, 8 male), We had 10 no-shows (5 dogs, 5 cats) by people who had not bothered to cancel. For those people the cost will be an additional $5 for any future appointments. This is not "punishment," but encouragement to assume responsibility.

The clinic today brings our total animals sterilized since inception to 6,867.

Today we had lots of big female dogs. Surgeries for those took much longer. In addition
Dr. Tello performed other procedures for already sterilized animals:  surgeries for 2 dogs and 2 cats, and exams for 2 other animals. We didn't finish until 6:00 pm, a very long day for all.

Be sure to see the photo album for today's clinic: Photos - Clinic #168

Two days before the clinic, a kind woman near Arte Cruz contacted Rodrigo, my employee. She had just rescued a male dog with a horrible wound. From the picture, I thought the dog had been hit by a car, but it was actually a tumor in the dog's anus. When Dr. Tello saw the photo, he said the dog would have to be euthanized.  But when Rodrigo brought the dog to the clinic, Dr. Tello said, "Oh, I can operate." So he did, and he neutered the dog at the same time. The kind rescuer has very little money, and I was glad to pay for the surgery and treatment of the dog. We will keep the him and give him daily treatment until we can return him to the woman who rescued him.

Monday after the dog's surgery,  we gave him a haircut and bathed him. He stank to high heaven, had a lot of matted hair and dandruff, and we are also treating him for skin fungus. The dog had obviously been dumped quite some time ago, so this will be a happy ending for him. When he is well and healthy, we will return him to his rescuer.

For anyone who isn't aware: I personally finance my  Spay/Panamá-Chiriquí clinics. It is my loving mission to sterilize as many dogs and cats as possible and thus reduce the overpopulation and suffering. And to make sterilizations more affordable, I charge the Panamanians only $10 per cat and $20 per dog despite my actual cost is a minimum of $25 per cat and $35 per dog. I will continue this work as long as I have my health and the finances to do so. Please donate to help me continue this important work.

Also, for exams and other types of surgeries at the end of the day,
I don't charge our clients for anything that I provide: injections of anesthesia, antibiotics, pain medication, antiparasite, and multivitamins. Our clients pay only the very reasonable amount that Dr. Tello charges for the exams and other types of surgeries.

Except for volunteers on clinic days, my two employees and I do everything ourselves with no other help --before, during, and after each clinic. Almost daily work is required to ensure each clinic is successful and well organized. I couldn't accomplish any of this without my two wonderful employees, Rodrigo Morales and Alcides Quintero--and of course our excellent veterinarian, Dr. Andres Tello who operates at each clinic.

Alcides works at each clinic, and Rodrigo stays busy transporting people and their animals to and from the clinic for those who need it.

Thank you to Maura (La_cuchara_gourmet, 6116-7719). She provided a delicious lunch of Pasta Boloñesa for our doctor and volunteers. I provided the coffee, drinks, fruit, and dessert.

And thank you to Don Binder for donating two crates and two food bowls.
